On Friday afternoon, Glen Rock High School and Glen Rock Middle School were placed on lockdown following a reported swatting incident.
The Glen Rock Police Department, Glen Rock Fire Department, Glen Rock Ambulance Corps, and the Borough’s Office of Emergency Management, along with mutual aid partners from surrounding communities, responded immediately. Their swift and coordinated actions highlight their unwavering commitment to the safety of our community.
Throughout the incident, Borough leadership and the Board of Education remained in close communication as the situation unfolded. That real-time coordination allowed our emergency responders and school officials to focus on their most important responsibility: keeping our students and staff safe. Timely communications were issued by both the Borough and the School District to keep parents and the Glen Rock community informed. We are grateful for the strong partnership that exists between the Borough and the Board of Education.
After a thorough investigation, authorities confirmed that there was no credible threat to the school community. The lockdown was lifted and students were safely dismissed.
As both public officials and parents in the Glen Rock school community, we understand how frightening moments like this can be for families. Many of us had children in the building during the lockdown and experienced the uncertainty of the situation as both parents and as public servants. We are deeply grateful for the professionalism and dedication shown by our police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, school administrators, teachers, and staff, who acted quickly and calmly throughout the incident.
We are also proud of our students, who followed directions and safety procedures during the lockdown. Their composure and cooperation helped ensure that the situation was managed safely.
In the coming days, the Borough and Board of Education will conduct an internal after-action review with our emergency responders and school leadership. This process will allow us to evaluate the response, recognize what worked well, identify lessons learned, and determine where we can continue to strengthen our procedures moving forward.
We also recognize that events like this can be stressful for students, staff, and families. Support resources have been made available through the school district for anyone who may need assistance processing the experience.
The safety of our children and our schools will always remain our highest priority.
