Arts Council Announces Community Mural Contest

Glen Rock’s “Splash of Community” Beautification Project Aims to Bring Color and Design to Municipal Pool

In an effort to create community togetherness and bring a design aesthetic to a popular local stomping ground, the Arts Council of Glen Rock (ACGR) is excited to announce a "Call to Artists" for a new mural project at the Glen Rock Municipal Pool.

The goal of this initiative is to create lasting public art that reflects our community's unique culture and spirit and enhances its residents-only aquatic center. The Glen Rock Pool is managed by Glen Rock Recreation, and features a main pool, water slide, and kiddie area.

"We want to engage the local arts community and provide a visible platform for talent while contributing to the beautification and cultural landscape of the town," said project leader Michele Keller, an ACGR Board member and local artist, lifelong resident and art educator. "The murals will serve as an attractive entryway to a popular destination in our community."

There are three mural design sites. Local artists are invited to submit their design concepts for one or all three murals. The design locations (photos are in the submission form) are:
  • the one rectangular red brick wall space behind the bike racks at the pool exit/entrance
  • the two white, textured rectangular exterior spaces (facing the parking lot) beneath the restroom’s windows

The town council will be part of the jurying process for the designs. A panel of Arts Council judges, including Ms. Keller and Heather Corey, a 2026 ACGR Board member and local artist, resident, community volunteer and art educator, will select the winning design. Selection will be based on interpretation of the theme, originality, overall artistic quality and transferability, i.e., the ease of scaling up the artwork for transfer to the wall.

The winner(s) will be announced on Monday, March 16, and the mural is expected to be completed by Friday, May 15.
